In some cases, the book is considered an art form. New York's Center for Book Arts, the oldest nonprofit in the US dedicated to book art, says that the intent of book arts is to "democratize the powerful media of the book by empowering people to harness the format independent from the exclusive commercial publishing and gallery industries."[1]
